New free advice service for people facing eviction or repossession launched

The government has just announced a new scheme called the 'Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service'.

This will provide free legal advice to either tenants or homeowners who are at risk of losing their home.

Through the scheme, people facing eviction or repossession in England and Wales will be able to receive expert legal advice free of charge, helping them to keep their homes and avoid lengthy, costly court proceedings. 

Key points of the scheme:

• It will be available from the moment a written notice is received by a tenant or homeowner - this could be an email from a landlord or letter from a mortgage provider.
• Legal representation in court, regardless of financial circumstances. 
• Legal support for housing, debt and welfare benefit matters.     

This is a good scheme to help protect people who are not being treated as well as they should be by their landlord or mortgage provider, and will hopefully help those vulnerable to losing their home stay for a while without being hounded out unnecessarily. 

Let's just hope this is well funded as there could be a lot of people contacting this service over the next 6-12 months!
